August Authority View Presidents Message Time and patience seem to be paying off. AEA staff and representatives have been writing to DEP regarding permit issues that effect all the member permittees. A meeting is set for September to present all of our long standing NJPDES issues and of course phosphorus. Our representatives will also discuss the concept of “scientific review.” AEA would like to see DEP use more scientific reviews of their implementation policies. Most recently the Passaic TMDL process was moved ahead by using such a process. Scientific review brings knowledgeable third parties to the table who understand the biological science, as well as modeling and statistics. DEP needs unbiased third parities to review the very intricate work of consultants who represent the permittee. As with any new approach the issue may be funding. AEA is committed to spending the time and energy needed to find a way to make scientific reviews a workable part of the regulatory process. It is time for a permittees update. A session has been scheduled for September 18 at Middlesex CUA. Consultants, attorneys and authority staff who deal with permits are all invited to this session. We need all permittees in attendance to give us feed back. Likewise our 35th Anniversary Celebration comes to a close at the AEA Annual Meeting. The Association will salute the Associate Member Companies that provide services to authorities. We could not do our jobs well without the products and services that these companies provide. Thanks
to all our longstanding and new associate member firms.
