Why
get involved?
That
must be one of life's eternal questions.
The
answer is the same in life as it is for AEA members:
You increase the benefit of membership in this Association
to the extent that you participate in AEA committees,
programs, meetings and other activities.
Join
a committee
Your membership in AEA can become more meaningful
just by volunteering to spend a couple of hours a month
at most as a member of one of AEA's committees.
AEA
is an active Association and our committees are responsible
for making many of the decisions and doing much of the
work that directs and shapes AEA. Committee meetings
are a way to help ensure the success of our Association
and they are a great networking opportunity, too.
AEA
committees look at the issues important to Authorities
-- NJPDES, water, benchmarking, legislative, conference
and solid waste. These issues also happen to be
important to associate and affiliate members who work
for Authorities or who want to work for them.
Our committees comprise the Association's top professionals
and, during regular committee meetings, members exchange
news and information that has value far beyond the day's
agenda.
Committee
work requires a high level of commitment, however.
When you join a committee, expect to be engaged.
Sponsor
an event
AEA
workshops
and meetings are another way to more fully enjoy
the benefits of your membership. Sponsoring an
event is a great way to gain exposure for your Authority
or firm where colleagues and potential customers will
be sure to notice.
These
events include the Spring Conference and Annual Meeting,
where sponsorships help defray costs and ensure that
everyone finds the program and socializing worthwhile.
In addition, there are workshops on a broad range of
issues concerning AEA. When you sponsor an AEA
event your name is featured prominently before the audience
you want to reach.
Write
for The Authority View newsletter
The Association newsletter, The
Authority View, provides another opportunity
for further participation in AEA. Many of our
regular and associate members write articles for the
newsletter on topics that are timely and important for
Authorities, especially ones that are clients.
Our members read our newsletter and it is a terrific
way to get noticed within AEA.
However, the Authority
View is distributed beyond the AEA membership, too.
Copies go to the Governor's Office, DEP and state legislators
and other elected officials. It is a valuable
forum for expressing ideas and for making a name for
your Authority or firm.
Volunteer
your know-how
Members can provide a valuable service to the Association
on a more informal level by lending their technical
expertise. From time to time AEA needs knowledgeable
members to review proposed legislation and regulations.
Often, we look to members of AEA standing committees,
but just as often we reach out to tap the expertise
of our members more informally.
Let
us know if you would be willing to review draft legislation
or regulations.
