OUTSTANDING COMMISSIONER

Nancy Sungenis
Cumberland County Utilities Authority

Nancy Sungenis has been a Commissioner at Cumberland County Utilities Authority (CCUA) since 1989, and during those twenty years she has also been an active member of the Association of Environmental Authorities (AEA).   Her active involvement at CCUA includes 1989 Appointed Commissioner, 1993 Appointed Vice-Chair, and 2001 Appointed Chair.

Until her appointment as Chair in 2001, Commissioner Sungenis served as Chair of several active committees.  Since being selected as the CCUA Chair she attends every committee meeting as an ex officio member adding her years of experience to the betterment of the Authority.  Her focus as Chair was to increase workforce safety training, improve operations and encourage employees to be publicly involved in their communities.  During this time, the Authority has had no lost time accidents and has received the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Safety for six consecutive years.   Her tenure as Chair included several construction projects to improve operations and efficiency and included a Wave Achievement Award winning project.

Before Chair Sungenis was appointed Commissioner she was the Mayor of Hopewell Township.  As Mayor she began the process of adding a sewer system to what is now one of the fastest growing communities in the CCUA system.

Chair Sungenis’ involvement with AEA includes attending every Spring and Fall Conference to learn all she can to improve the CCUA operation.  She also has attended many specialty conferences to expand her knowledge of authority operations.   She continues to be an inspiration to involve Commissioners to make the Cumberland County Utilities Authority better than ever.
